Buy your house in Ramatuelle, the village of stars
Like its neighbour, Saint-Tropez, the village of Ramatuelle has attracted many French and international celebrities.
A perfect example is the singer Johnny Hallyday, who built in a magnificent 710 m2 villa in Oumède in1989 to be near his closest friends: Eddy Mitchell, France Gall, Michel Berger, Eddie Barclay or Brigitte Bardot.
Called "La Lorada" (a contraction of the first names of his children, Laura and David), this neo-provencal residence inspired by Mexican haciendas was designed by renowned architects Alain and Roland Morisse, and the interior by Claude Chauvin.
With its cactus-filled patios, a central fountain decorated with water lilies and papyrus, huge gym, multiple terraces and outbuildings, La Lorada boasts a unique style. The rock legend added a very personal touch, decorating the house with memories of his life and travels.
But the swimming pool is undoubtedly the highlight of this extraordinary property. With an area of 500 m2, it is composed of several lagoons, coves, waterfalls, islands dotted with palm trees and various shallow-water sandy beaches. Not to mention the hammam and jacuzzi, with its mosaic depicting a golden eagle.
La Lorada is also distinguished by its two-hectares of park, designed by landscape architect Raymond Eberweis. The grounds offer an idyllic setting of a pine forest, vineyard, olive grove, vegetable garden, tennis court, bowling alley and a heliport. An emblematic place that inspired some of the singer's greatest hits.
Why buy a house in Ramatuelle rather than Saint-Tropez?
If the reputation of Saint-Tropez is well established, Ramatuelle offers serious advantages for purchasing a luxury villa.
This typical Provencal village, positioned in front of the famous Pampelonne Bay, is equal to its neighbour. From its traditional stone houses, terracotta tile roofs and postcard-like decor, Ramatuelle is an exceptional place, with its own identity.
This explains why it is one of the favourite destinations for people in search of tranquillity, nature and authenticity. The countryside, set back from the coast, offers a peaceful setting dotted with beautiful estates. The municipality has integrated the building perfectly into the natural environment, with controlled urbanisation.
In the heart of the village, visitors enjoy strolling through the narrow streets, while admiring its characteristic architecture and discovering atypical places. Not to mention the many special interests and cultural activities offered.
And finally, buying a house in Ramatuelle allows you to spend your holiday in peace yet move about easily by car since the village is less touristy than Saint-Tropez. It also attracts a trendy clientele thanks to its vibrant nightlife. In fact, the gulf's most famous beach clubs are mere steps away.
